And this is Abuelo Cheo.

abueloLast night I dreamed about Abuelo Cheo. It happens often. There was some sort of gathering at a house, which looked suspiciously like the ground level apartment my mom, brother and I lived back in the projects in the late 80s. I stood where that big big tree would have stood in the front yard, where mami tied up a little swing. From my left I could see an immense yellow light coming from the porch and out he walks, without saying a word. He looks back, grabs a large chisel-like tool, props open a panel of the sidewalk and drops one of his poetry journals inside, with the intention of hiding it and having someone find it years later.  I almost asked if I could have it instead, I would have loved to read all his poetry. But I opted against it. They were not meant to be read by me.

I witnessed all this from my little corner, sobbing and sobbing, for I knew he was already dead. Anytime I can dream about him is a lovely experience, even if I have to face the truth.

Sigh,

(Man, I’m a total debbie downer today, sheesh)

A Graduate.

img017

Exactly four years ago, I graduated college. Senior year was rough and a little tumultuous. But I am part of the first generation of my family to choose college. It was a big deal and am very proud of having done so.

Many graduates proudly display their diplomas or perhaps even store them away for years, not to be seen until many many years later. As we speak, mine hangs at my mama’s living room (or wherever she has placed it now, she re-designs things every day). Because, really, it was all her. I wouldn’t have achieved such a feat if she hadn’t believed that the only way for us to leave the poverty of our surroundings was to study freakin’ hard.

So here’s to you, crazy mami! Thank you.

(Also, how cute is that top she is wearing?!?!?!)

Oh, peonies…

adelman01My Portland bestie, Linnea, and I had one last photo adventure before she trekked off to Houston, Texas some weeks ago. It involved a farm full of the most beautiful flowers this side of Alpha Centauri. Adelman Peony Garden was just lovely, as many Oregon flower farms are. Oh, swoon. Really.  Enjoy!

Kelly and Joseph’s Rad Wedding!

kj01How absolutely wonderful it was to attend Kelly and Joseph’s stateside wedding for those of us who couldn’t fly out to Mexico for their first ceremony! It was also my first time camping as well set up our tents at the end of the day at this beautiful cabin in Welches, OR, close to Mount Hood. Charming location, great friends and lots of love for the newlywed couple.  Silly me did not bring more film to shoot at the river-side ceremony. Silly {good thing I wasn’t the official photographer, right!} Swoon! Congratulations, Kelly and Joseph!

kj02kj03This is Arf.

kj04Arf and Barkley :)

kj05Some of the guests took a bus ride to get to the cabin. It was all sorts of fun. :)

My best friend’s wedding!

miniprevjanicejon

miniprevjanicejon2

My best friend Janice got married last weekend in Houston, Texas and I couldn’t be any happier! I don’t think either of us can believe that day finally arrived. So much fun was had! That is me on the far right wearing Born sandals because, really, I can’t shoot a wedding wearing heels!
